About The Position
We’re
looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead our growing
R&D organization in Barcelona. Building a platform to support the
entire global air freight industry is kind of a big deal and demands a
kind of awesome technical and business leader. Particularly one that
understands the challenges that come with building and owning
v[1]-v[N] growing development teams, and still being incredible at Xbox.
WebCargo,
part of the Freightos Group, digitizes global freight sales for over
1,400 of the world’s largest logistics providers and carriers. In other
words, the phone, computer, tablet, or Discman you’re reading this on
probably was imported using one of them (you’re welcome).
We’re
part of the Freightos Group, a logistics technology company that’s
raised nearly $100 million from investors like GE Ventures, the
Singapore Exchange and Aleph, and have gotten the BBC, TechCrunch, and
The Wall Street Journal excited about freight.
The
perfect director has amazing experience designing, architecting and
implementing technology in greenfield areas as well as scaling
established pieces of the technology stack. In other words, help us
build a beautiful tech stack and keep our already pretty stack running.
The successful candidate must come from a software architect or
developer background. We like professional LEGO builders but it’s just
not enough.
The successful candidate should be able to
manage people, process and products (and anything else you can think of
that starts with the letter P). We expect the R&D Director (aka
you) to be a strategic thinker, a role model that leads by example, an
innovator, an actual owner, an effective coach and mentor, and a great
communicator. Yes, we expect a lot.
Responsibilities:
Set
standards (that actually get enforced!), deploy mechanisms (that
actually get used!) and create processes (that are awesome!) to deliver
highly available and performing systems with end to end ownership on all
services and product lines. In other words, build a great team that
works.
Develop technical leaders and managers until they’re good enough that headhunters try to steal them.
Recruit,
develop, and retain software engineers to meet business growth needs
while making sure that they say no to those head-hunters.
Create,
sell and manage strategic plans with demonstrable results to grow the
R&D organization and to deliver on the business goals.
Use data to make key decisions. Our average decision is made based on 6 data points (yes, we made that up).
Create a positive and transparent culture. The kind you’d want to work in.
Contribute to every part of the development and deployment cycle throughout the R&D organization.
A doer that finds creative ways to deliver quickly and to maximize the value of the team and organization efforts
