We are looking for a senior Engineering Manager
with expertise in Machine Learning to join our Data Products mission in
Berlin. As an Engineering Manager, you will work with the team focusing
on large-scale bidding and search term value prediction. In this role,
you will have the opportunity to develop your craft, grow your team, and
build products that have a significant impact on the business.
Team Mission:
The Data Product team's mission is to transform our vast amount
of data into intelligent products our customers love. Working in
cross-functional teams, we tackle a variety of problems and use
state-of-the-art algorithms and data infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engineers and scientists who work on the Bidding team
- Work together with the team to set goals, plan roadmaps, and
achieve results across responsibilities such as algorithm performance,
scalability, reliability, and ease of use
- Serve a diverse group of data practitioners by mentoring and
coaching machine learning engineers and data scientists to reach their
full potential
- Contribute to the engineering leadership team, shaping our engineering and wider company culture
- Bring excellent people onboard by actively involving yourself in hiring for your own and other teams in the company
Requirements:
- Experience leading technology team(s) in the data domain and ability to work hands-on when needed
- Strong background in machine learning (ideally prediction problems) or a related field
- Track record building end-to-end data products, from prototype to production
- Experience working with large datasets at scale, with tools like Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Parquet etc
- You thrive in a customer-centric and data-driven environment
- You are passionate about business results and people, not just technical expertise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English as well as strong interpersonal skills
Nice to have:
- Hands-on experience with Scala and Spark (MLlib and Airflow is a plus)
- Experience in a B2C startup environment (travel or e-commerce industry is a plus)
