ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

The Knot Worldwide’s Data team is looking for a Sr Director of Data Engineering to lead, mentor, an exceptional data engineering team performing data architecture analysis, design, development and testing to deliver data applications, services, interfaces, ETL processes, BI reporting, analytics and other workflow management initiatives. The Sr Director must have the ability to influence and lead talented engineering teams while simultaneously having hands on technical acumen to ensure that we build compelling, customer-focused solutions in an iterative methodology.

Working closely with the VP of Data Platform, this individual will be accountable to drive a cohesive data strategy across various data initiatives in collaboration with multiple organizational partners. This role will build teams to deliver highly performant and scalable data products to drive consumption of data from our enterprise data ecosystem, while driving data engineering best practices.

Success in the role requires an innovative mind, a proven track record of delivering next generation software and data products, rigorous analytical skills, and a passion for delivering customer value through automation, machine learning and predictive analytics. This role will be partnering closely with our stakeholders and also with other Data teams to develop data models, pipelines, and data-driven solutions that enable deep analysis for our Business Domains (Product, Marketing, and Revenue) and supporting AI/ML initiatives led by our Data Science teams.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineering managers, playing a hands-on role to design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines that collect, process, and analyze large datasets, including but not limited to, behavioral tracking, customer profiles, financial & e-commerce transactions, CRM, and advertising.
  • Own and deliver an Enterprise Data Engineering Platform including the strategy and roadmap across the entire data lifecycle from ingestion, dimensional modeling, business intelligence, and data egress.
  • Serve as a thought leader to the organization in the areas of data, business intelligence, analytics, and the effective business use of data technologies.
  • Identify high impact project opportunities and process changes and improve productivity of the overall Data & Analytics technical team.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to co-create strategic data solutions that directly address critical business challenges and drive measurable improvements in results.
  • Partner with Product Management to implement a data-driven prioritization framework, ensuring resources are aligned to initiatives with the highest potential business impact and value creation.
  • Deliver a DevOps model including support, agile, monitoring, and incident response tracking metrics.
  • Drive the development of innovative, future-proof technology solutions, including both cloud and on-premises architectures, while ensuring customization to meet evolving business requirements.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments to executive management as appropriate.
  • Develop project estimates based on defined scope and customer acceptance criteria.
  • Responsible for establishing software development, software test methodologies and quality processes, e.g. design and code reviews.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for leading a global engineering and development team with ability to recruit, train, develop and retain team members.

 

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience holding crucial roles in leading a team of data engineers to architect, design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data infrastructure and pipelines while providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure their professional growth and development.
  • Experience including design, development, management, administration, and support building data models with recent experience working with DBT, Snowflake and Python
  • Experience in data integration & orchestration using Airbyte & Airflow or similar tools.
  • Deep knowledge of modern data stack and infrastructures, including, AWS Cloud, Data warehouse/Data Lake/Data Mesh, Change Data Capture (CDC) and data tracking and integration tools like Segment and CDPs.
  • Experience rolling out a DevOps model and delivering Agile development tools.
  • Experience implementing an Agile SDLC for data, including ceremonies, metrics, and quality processes.
  • Business acumen with an understanding of Marketing, Product, and/or Finance landscapes is desired.
