What does a great Development Manager do?
A successful Development Manager is a coach for their teams, passionate about building careers for engineers and re-enforcing a strong Agile culture. They steer the team in the right technical direction. Collaboration with stakeholders is key, in particular Product and Architecture to ensure alignment on our strategy and vision.
Responsibilities:
- Build, manage and support multiple software development teams using a variety of technologies, for example Spring/Java for Backend and JSPs/React for Frontend.
- Act as coach and mentor for teams. Line manage senior engineers and tech leads and be responsible for developing their careers and devising training plans for them
- Create and nurture a safe environment so that individuals and teams are free to innovate, experiment and fail
- Advocate for engineering best practice across all aspects of delivery in order to deliver first class products
- Drive and contribute directly to the technology strategy by working with peer groups in Engineering, Architecture and Product Management to evaluate, implement and advocate new tools, best practices and technologies
What we look for/who would prosper in this role?
- 3+ years experience in a Software Development Management role, delivering software projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience of leading/working within agile development teams.
- Significant experience managing large teams, including offshore/nearshore teams.
- A strong commercial focus and a proven understanding of the trade-offs required to deliver great products and solutions to our customers in an effective way.
- Tangible experience of identifying and leveraging new technologies to deliver real value to the business.
