Job Description

As a Full Stack Developer at FindHotel you will help to develop and improve our high-performance website scaling up web traffic from 1M+ visitors to 10M by the end of the year.

What you tell your friends you do

"I am an all round developer that builds the best performing hotel meta-search experience the world has ever seen."

What you will really be doing

  • Building a high-performance website, helping scale up web traffic from 1M+ visitors to 10M by the end of the year.
  • Implementing new features and validating them with A/B testing.
  • Developing our own APIs and work on integrating third party APIs.

How will you be doing this?

  • You are an experienced full stack developer in a diverse team of talented experts. You have a preference for backend tasks and you are willing to be involved in shaping all key aspects of the product.
  • Work is prioritised together with the product owner and the rest of the team. You will receive immediate feedback from A/B tests and you will have a lot of opportunities to experiment.
  • Choose the right tools for whatever job will be thrown at you. You are an expert and we're always open to re-evaluating choices that were made in the past.
  • You will collaborate with a motivated team to meet ambitious deadlines. There is always a budget for good ideas.
  • Big data and experience are your gurus, your gut feeling isn't. To measure is to know.

What we worked on last quarter

  • Laying the groundwork for a modern adaptive web application, based on React and Redux frontend which communicates with a decoupled Ruby On Rails backend.
  • We built a scalable infrastructure in the cloud, based on AWS, Docker and Continuous Deployment.

What a day in the office might look like

In the morning, after the daily stand-up, you pair program with a fellow backend developer to implement a new version of the sorting algorithm for the recommended hotels list, which is expected to improve conversion. After lunch, you set it up as one of the next A/B tests to be deployed to the live site. Then you check a few metrics on New Relic and start thinking of a way to reduce the size of the payload for mobile requests, which gets added to the backlog and prioritised by the PO right after discussing its potential impact.

The team

You will be working in the Product Squad with co-developers Luca (Backend), Jop (Frontend), and Suzana (Frontend). Katia (UX designer) will help us shape the product, after receiving input from Omer (Data Analyst). Michelle (Product Owner) will prioritize the roadmap and a QA Engineer will make sure we deliver high-quality software to our users.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in web development, with a preference for backend work yet good understanding of the whole flow
  • Experience with development and integration of REST APIs
  • Experience working on high scale, customer facing websites
  • Good understanding of caching and performance optimization
  • Bonus points if you have experience with testing
  • Bonus points if you are familiar with Ruby and any of its web frameworks (Rails/Sinatra)
  • Bonus points if you have experience with AWS and Docker

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work in a diverse international team in a startup environment
  • An agile environment where communication and initiative is valued and cherished
  • Many chances to develop yourself including access to courses and conferences
  • No nonsense! We’re proud of our flat hierarchy and short democratic decision paths
  • A fun work environment that includes a delicious lunch, unlimited snacks and beer, ping pong tables and foosball
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • Great new spacious and light-filled office located in central Amsterdam

Sound like somewhere you'd thrive? We'd love to hear from you. Please send us your resume and a short paragraph introducing yourself and why you'd like to be a part of our team!
