Job Description

More than 20 years ago, zooplus was one of the first to bring the pet category into the world of eCommerce. Today, we stand strong as Europe’s leading online pet platform, delivering moments of happiness to more than 9 million pet parents each year.

Job Description

As Cloud Engineer – AWS you will have the opportunity to be working on the Big Data platform team This team is responsible for building the software that allows our business colleagues to make decisions in an easy and efficient way. The platform provides an abstraction layer that runs thousands of big data jobs every day, running on compute engines like Athena and Spark. At the same time we are introducing Iceberg, an industry-standard data storage format for analytics.

As of today, our platform stores more than a Petabyte of data.

At the same time, we build software that allows us to transport all types of data, make it visible throughout Zooplus and provide options for use cases that require analytics, operational or event-driven approaches.

We manage and operate Kubernetes clusters, Kafka, RDS, Jupyterhub, custom-built ETL jobs, and provide a web GUI for our users made in Vue.js. All this on the AWS cloud, where we also manage Athena, EC2, EKS, Glue, IAM, MSK, S3.

To organize ourselves as a team, we rely on modern approaches to product management, and try to improve every day to incorporate technical excellence trends. Our way of working is composed of Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), and Lean Software practices. The cross-functional dev team holds full ownership, from idea to production with a DevOps mindset: you build it you run it. You will work in a cross-functional team in which T-learning is promoted. And in which engineers can develop a second or third specialization if they wish in order to help the team to achieve the product goals.

All this in a safe and trusting environment with a leadership team that promotes self-organization and allows to solve the problems that arise with freedom, and that focuses on solving impediments and on generating an environment of continuous learning and technical excellence. You will join an agile team, goal-oriented, and with other highly-experienced engineers with a wide variety of skills. Your focus will be on operations, infrastructure, automation, and cloud maintenance, but it’s expected that you learn and contribute to the rest of the needs of the product like frontend or backend development if needed to reach the goals of the product.

We’re looking for a person that can help us on these topics:

Help your team to manage and maintain our infrastructure in Amazon Web Services

· Help with the automation of all software development processes, including the whole infrastructure for the data platform in the cloud

· Help the team to operate our Kubernetes infrastructure and coach them in doing so

· Improve our Jenkins pipelines in order to keep a fast delivery flow to production

· Coach your colleagues on infra and cloud so they also help with these tasks

· Help and learn the implementation of backend or front in a variety of languages

· Support the development and design of the product

· You build it, you run it, and you own it. From development to production.

Qualifications

To work together in an optimal way in this position, we wish your qualifications to include:

· Mandatory a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a Software Development degree.

· Fluent English

· 5 years of experience programming in Infrastructure Coding Languages like Go, Python or bash, with a previous background in at least 1 year as Software Development.

· Experienced administrating and managing Kubernetes clusters

· Experienced in cloud administration and orchestration (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure is a must)

· (Desirable) High expertise with Amazon Web Services (EKS, Athena, Aurora, IAM, S3, Glue)

· Familiar with Infrastructure as Code tools like and Terraform.

· Familiar with cloud architecture patterns and best practices for designing highly available, scalable and secure systems.

· Excellent communication skills and a sense of ownership, with systematic problem-solving approach
