mission we have an exciting project to build and develop a new open
social media platform for educators, called MoodleNet… and we have a
unique opportunity for a Technical Architect to work on its technical
inception.
This role can either be based out of our
Barcelona Europe head quarters or done remotely working from the comfort
of your own home.

will be a key building block in the Moodle ecosystem, and part of an
award-winning international open-source software project. We create a
powerful open-source online learning platform used by schools, higher
education institutions and workplaces globally. Moodle’s learning

What your new job can look like…
In this 6
month contract role you will be a full-stack developer who can advise
around key strategic technology decisions for the project. You will
prototype solutions to be tested with the Moodle community, educators,
and partners. With almost two million registered users on the moodle.org
forums, we envisage MoodleNet as being a platform that will quickly
scale to be used globally.
You will work with the
MoodleNet Lead to scope and develop a technical roadmap, work towards an
integrated and robust technology ecosystem, undertake hands-on
prototyping of potential solutions, as well as liaising with numerous
stakeholders.

We're looking for someone with strong skills in:
- Working openly, particularly in terms of open source software projects
- Technical development of ‘big picture’ digital projects
- Prototyping solutions, with the attitude of being happy to fail fast and learn quickly
- Agiles project management
- Breaking apart complex problems into tangible, understandable units - and then creating actionable solutions for each of them.
- Working with a globally-distributed team
- Technologies
such as: JavaScript (including modern frameworks such as React,
Angular, and Vue.js), HTML, CSS, Node.js, Git, and database options such
as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MongoDB, and/or Redis
- Dynamic scalable solutions using cloud technologies
And if you have this, even better:
- Moodle experience
- Knowledge and interest in Open protocols such as ActivityPub
- Working knowledge of PHP (for integration with Moodle core)
- Previous experience in a Technical Architect role
- An experimental approach, keeping up to date with developments such as IPFS and digital credentialing
With this kind of approach:
- The ability to build and maintain relationships and work confidently with people at all levels
- An enthusiastic and approachable personality
- A good communicator (both written and verbal) with the ability to earn trust and credibility
- The ability to work independently and take the initiative
- A team player with the emotional maturity to tolerate ambiguity and uncertainty
- The
ability to lead by example and manage others, including delegation
where appropriate to meet deadlines with competing priorities
Note: the successful applicant will work closely with
Doug Belshaw,
MoodleNet Lead, who is based in the UK. The successful applicant will
therefore be expected to overlap at least four hours per day with his
standard working hours (GMT or BST, depending on the time of year).
