At Personio, we are on the amazing journey of becoming the leading HR Platform in Europe!

The real story for us begins by impacting people globally every day. By simplifying and automating thousands of processes across human resource management, payroll and recruiting, we are impacting close to 1.000.000 people.

As a Lead Engineer, you will be a bar raiser in a mission-based team. In collaboration with a Staff Engineer, you’ll ensure that we are constantly making the best technical decisions to maximise development efficiency and product maintenance. That means making technical decisions, enforcing good separation of concerns, addressing the challenges of building software at the scale of Personio, improving observability to maintain high availability, etc.

This is a high-impact and hands-on role. Your daily tasks will be coding, writing and reviewing RFC and mentoring other engineers to help them grow and ensure the software we build is up to Personio’s standard. As a leader, you will also take initiatives outside your team: interviewing engineers, reviewing coding challenges, holding technical presentations, building central components, etc.

Your mission
  • Ensure the team makes the best technical decision addressing Personio’s challenges.
  • Build complex and reusable components that the team can leverage to improve delivery.
  • Ensure the high quality of delivery via code reviews, pair programming sessions while mentoring engineers and fostering the technical growth of the team.
  • Increase observability of our software and platform to meet our availability target.
  • Engage in technical collaboration with other teams to maximise synergy and align our roadmaps.
  • Be the technical go-to person in your team for technical and non-technical topics and stakeholders.
  • Drive an engineering culture of quality, good development principles and innovation from inside your team.
  • Advocate adoption and lead implementation of PWA across entire teams.
  • Support engineers across delivery teams to unblock their UI library challenges.
  • Define and implement metrics to measure the team's progress towards our goals.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Concrete knowledge of TypeScript, React, SCSS, CSS Modules, Style Dictionary, Rollup, Webpack, Nx and monorepo among others.
  • A deep understanding of DOM, CSSOM, DOM events, Critical Render Path (CRP), semantic versioning, package distribution, and client and server-side rendering (CSR, SSR).
  • Proficient with different types of testing strategies for applications/components.
  • A DesignOps mindset with a proven track record of maintaining design systems.
  • Enthusiasm for building a technical strategy and translating it into reality.
  • Comfortable breaking down large pieces of work into smaller deliverables.
  • Experience with micro-frontends, event-driven, and functional and reactive programming.
  • Very good communication skills to provide technical guidance and leadership.
  • Passion for enabling your teammates and amplifying their technical abilities by mentoring and coaching.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

What motivation and mentality should you bring
  • You are a team player. You are open to different approaches and support the team in making decisions.
  • You are a proactive problem solver. You are willing to leave code and engineering practices in a better shape than when you first encountered them.
  • You are pragmatic and aware of the business value your code delivers. You can sacrifice “ideal” for “solid”. But you don’t leave tech debt behind.
  • You embrace change and have an iterative mindset for delivering software: bring your agile mindset to the table!
  • You embrace feedback - no one is perfect, and neither are we. So let’s make this an opportunity to praise and learn from each other.
  • Teaching, Coaching and empowering your colleagues is something that fulfills you.
  • Humor! Have fun with us, learn from our mistakes, and bring good vibes.
