We
are 32 people in London & San Francisco and just getting started.
Our engineering team are 13 people working in two product crews shipping
some unbelievable products and features for our clients like Google,
Airbnb, Netflix & IDEO globally. Those clients all sound really
impressive, and they are, but we’re most proud of our cross-functional
product-focused technology team who delight them. As our first
Engineering Manager you will be joining a team of extremely talented and
motivated people who love nothing more than solving problems for the
teams that use Kalo.
One

ambitious and experienced Engineering Manager to join us on this amazing
journey. You will be joining a team that sits in the two centre’s of
the tech industry, San Francisco and London, and you come at the most
exciting part of the journey. We are looking for somebody who know’s how
to unlock potential and motivate incredible people.

the best Software Engineers (and the ones that are right for Kalo) are
self-starters who can work well as part of a larger team and who can
build enthusiasm and empower the team with their ideas, making sure
their goals work for everyone (not just focusing on current or short
term goals).

What you'll get up to
- You
are a player/coach - You spend most of your time getting stuck in but a
large part of your time is helping the engineers in your team
- Work with Kalo's world class engineering team to nurture their professional, technical & personal development
- Lead your team in tackling the company’s toughest technical challenges
- Design innovative technical and product solutions
- Mentor and advise other engineers on technical design and highlighting pros + cons with implementation decisions early
- Enhance the cross-functionality already in place at Kalo to create collaborative and creative teams
- Provide
continuous feedback, improving the performance, and recognize the
individual strengths and contributions of your team members
- Get involved in wider tech & architectural discussions
- Champion
and further modern software development best practices in the teams you
work directly with as well across the whole of Kalo
- Partner effectively with product and design to ensure appropriate balance of technical priorities
- Help teams focus on helping our customers solve their problems
- Working with the team to release things quickly whilst building sustainable, impactful products and features
- Harbour a spirit of perpetual improvement in the code, architecture and process of the Kalo tech team
- Get really involved with PeopleOps & Talent to add to & retain the first class talent Kalo has
- Please note that this role requires hands-on coding; not just people-management
About you
- You
have demonstrated experience in leading, coaching and mentoring
engineering teams and delivering working software together with them
- Your
passion and experience is seeing people growing and developing as well
as attracting the best new talent to help strengthen the team
- Kalo is building for the future and you will have foresight to look to where we are going and how the team can best achieve that
- You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and you’re committed to solving technical and process challenges creatively
- You can motivate and instill a strong sense of ownership in your team
- You
have solid experience working in agile development environments and can
identify practices + processes that will support and boost your team
- Driven to pitch in and work alongside your team rather than getting caught up in bureaucracy

own team at Kalo is just getting started. Located in London and San
Francisco, we are super excited about the opportunity ahead of us. We
take our work very seriously, but we never take ourselves too seriously.
We love teaming up on hard problems without much guidance, and we don’t
believe in titles. Messing up is OK, we love people who enjoy learning
from experiments.
