CARTO is looking for a
knowledgable, motivated and independent Data Scientist to join our Data
Science team in our Madrid office. With over 120 employees in NYC, DC,
Madrid and London, CARTO helps clients like Vodafone, Mastercard, DPD
and BBVA to turn their location data into business outcomes.
You
will work with CARTO's Data Science, Product and Strategic Solutions
teams to research, test and implement custom statistical / machine
learning models and algorithms that will become key part of the tools we
build for customers. These models may help to predict revenues for retail sites with transaction data; enable field sales teams to balance their territories or cities to predict crashes with historical traffic data.
You
will also work closely with our Strategic Solutions department to
understand the needs of our clients and with our NYC-based Head of Data
Science to scope out solutions that answer these needs, liaising with
our product team to turn research into API’s that can be consumed by
multiple front-end applications (such as Reveal or SalesQuest).
What you’ll do
- Define models that solve spatial data problems with our Data Science team.
- Help our Product and Engineering teams to implement these models in our live products.
- Collaborate
with our Strategic Solutions team to gain a deep understanding of our
client’s business problems and how we can use Location Intelligence
through our applications to address them.

- You have a solid knowledge of statistics and machine learning methods.
- You are fluent in Python or R.
- You feel comfortable working with databases (especially PostgreSQL).
- You know how to communicate complex ideas to a non-technical audience.
- You are able to speak in English even in deeply technical conversations.
- You feel at home operating independently in a dynamic work environment.
- You are a self-starter with bias for action and plenty of ideas to propose and put in motion.
Good to haves
- You’re used to working with Spatial Data.
- You’re versed in Spark, Hadoop or other similar platforms.
- You can use visualization tools like D3, matplotlib or R Shiny.
- You know some JavaScript.

- You’ve worked in one of the following use cases: Site Planning, Territory Management or Logistics Optimization.
- You have experience working in a sector such as Retail, Real Estate, Transport or Logistics.
Benefits
We offer
- Competitive, results-based compensation.
- Access to our employee stock options plan.

- A bright, comfortable office, stocked with snacks, good coffee, and even a ping-pong table, a self-built arcade and cinema :)
