Job Description

Amazon continues to grow and launch new products and we have several openings for Senior Software Engineers to technically lead a team.
These are senior roles (may be called Lead / Principal Engineer elsewhere!), where you lead the design and implementation of large-scale efforts from the technical perspective. You will drive the direction of the software architecture and work with other teams on integration. In addition to owning the architecture of a larger product, you will lead code reviews, mentor engineers, and drive important technical decisions.
We have openings in several teams: Kindle, Amazon Business, International Technology and DiscoveryTech.

Key job responsibilities
As a Sr. Software development engineer, you will be:
· solving problems that center around scale, across all realms, over hundreds of millions of customers;
· owning the software architecture and technical designs;
· writing high quality, maintainable code and perform peer code-reviews;
· providing technical leadership and expertise;
· partnering with other teams such as Applied science;
· mentoring new members as we continue to add to our footprint and scope;


A day in the life
Together with the rest of the engineers you will be responsible for delivering production-ready code that will be used by hundreds of millions of Amazon customers, and you will own end-to-end the customer experience of the services and features that you build. As a Sr. software development engineer, you will have a significant impact on the way customers, including friends and family, experience Amazon daily.

Kindle books builds new products and develops core services that delight customers in discovering, buying, reading, and listening to their favorite novels, non-fiction and technical books, articles, comic books, and all other forms of reading.

DiscoveryTech:
The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon’s cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models, you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon’s customers all over the globe.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s (or above) Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
· 8+ years of professional experience in software development
· Strong Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design, complexity analysis, scalability and availability
· Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language
· Demonstrated technical team leadership in architecting, developing, and deploying complex solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience building microservices
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations;
· Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project;
· Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs;
