Job Description

Improbable’s mission is to make new realities possible. These realities will enrich the human experience, underpin superior decisions, be the foundation for new businesses and create insights into how the universe works.

Our first product is SpatialOS; a distributed operating system capable of producing consequential, persistent simulations at unprecedented scale. SpatialOS is being deployed in many progressive game studios and the most critical government institutions across the world.

We are a British technology company with an internationally diverse workforce, unified by our desire to achieve extraordinary things. Fulfilling our long-term vision requires solving some of the most interesting and difficult problems on earth; the journey to new realities provides continuous progression and development opportunities for our world class problem solvers.

_mission

You’ll be tasked with building a modern cloud-based architecture as part of our corporate engineering strategy. As an Improbable engineer, you’ll work in a dynamic environment across a variety of desktop, server and cloud-based systems that enable us to operate globally 24x7.

You’ll need great communication skills, a hunger to learn, and a zest for automation. This role will be vital in helping Improbable grow our cutting-edge corporate infrastructure to meet our ambitious growth. This will involve unusual working hours, a huge range of technical challenges, and working in a constantly changing environment.

We need you to be passionate about availability and enabling people to help themselves: the business runs around the clock and high productivity is key to our success. You’ll need to own issues - from diagnosis through to fixing, documenting and preventing regressions. You'll need a sense of humour and a positive outlook!

_competencies

You should heavily relate to the following profile:

  • Good knowledge of Windows, Linux and MacOS (including centralised configuration & update management etc.)
  • System administration skills such as account management, permissions, log analysis etc.
  • A mentality that automation rules and that computers are better than humans for mundane tasks
  • An inherent drive for helping others help themselves through appropriate tooling and documentation.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience with asset & licence tracking systems
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef
  • Experience with Cloud environments such as AWS or Google Cloud
  • Basic networking and security experience
