Job Description

About Clearmatics

Clearmatics is a fast-growing, venture funded FinTech start-up based in central London. In partnership with our financial institution clients, we are developing a distributed clearing machine architecture for OTC markets using advanced blockchain technology.

Founded in 2015, the moral imperative of our company is to use technology to help the private sector and regulators re-engineer the infrastructure of capital markets to make it more transparent, less centralised, and resilient to counterparty failure.

Our technology stack enables distributed automation of post-trade processes, allowing dealers, end-users, and other members of the capital markets ecosystem to process trades through light-weight, consortium-governed Decentralised Clearing Networks (DCNs) rather than centralised post-trade intermediaries.

Working at Clearmatics

We’re a fast-growing start-up with paying clients, an open source software business model and a lucrative target market. This brings a number of benefits, including a high level of autonomy, a flat and intimate team structure and a lack of bureaucracy. The Clearmatics team is small but experienced, driven by motivated people who want to build innovative solutions for a market undergoing rapid change since the financial crisis.

We offer a competitive salary and significant benefits in an exciting, friendly and flexible work environment. We are an equal-opportunities company that values diversity, and welcome all qualified applicants.

The Role in Context

We are moving rapidly to define, build and successfully deliver all functionality for the upcoming USC (Utility Settlement Coin) service. As a result, OpCo are building a dedicated Product and Project team to work with both customers and internal technology teams to make sure that the solution we build meets the requirements of customers and regulators. As Systems Architect you will be responsible for all systems analysis, modelling and design of the new service. This will include significant client engagement and deep systems analysis.

You will be fully accountable for all service and solutions milestones, including initial hypothesis through to business analysis, client engagement and accurate technical documentation through team members.

What You Can Expect and What We Need from You

We are a rapidly growing business and what we are building has never been done before. People joining our company must be high energy, enthusiastic and genuinely motivated by being part of the Clearmatics journey. It’s hard work joining a start-up and you need to be willing to juggle multiple tasks, regularly contribute outside of your day-to-day job role and generally throw yourself into who we are and what we are doing.

It is essential that our Systems Architect both believes in the value that Clearmatics adds to the market, and has the in-depth knowledge of central banking settlements to lead the successful deployment of the USC and other services. We will encounter new technical, operational and regulatory challenges and it is essential that you have both the knowledge and the commitment to guide the business to success.

We’re asking for a lot, but for the right person the opportunity is almost limitless. You will be working with some of the brightest minds in the financial markets and be part of a journey that will influence and drive the way the industry operates in years to come.

Key Deliverables

  • Follow and enhance Agile and hypothesis-driven development methodology
  • Own all systems modelling and architecture for the USC service, ensuring that the final product meets both technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise the CEO and other senior members of the business throughout product definition phases
  • You will possess advanced system modelling (UML / TLA) capabilities.
  • Significant experience designing platform-based products / solutions within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Knowledge of RTGS and other central banking settlement processes
