The Desktop QE Team is looking for a Senior Graphics Quality Engineer to join us for an interesting new initiative. In this role, you will help us make sure that the user experience of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a seamless experience for our customers and that each release is stable, safe, and functioning properly.

 

You will develop tests, search, analyze, report, and track defects, as well as verify bug fixes related to release engineering in a new edge project.

 

This role gives you the opportunity to contribute to the way we test our Linux operating system. We are looking for an open-minded person with the ability to think creatively, adapt quickly as well as contribute to our future automation efforts.

What you will do

  • Work in a cross-functional team together with other software engineers, quality engineers, product and project managers to apply the implementation of those features and processes to the specific software products.
  • Actively participate in the definition of the software functional safety quality metrics, benchmarks, and related testing procedures.
  • Analyze and prioritize quality risks and identify tests required to mitigate them.
  • Perform manual testing. Debug and track issues, and verify fixes.
  • Provide timely, complete, and accurate test status reports to all stakeholders.
  • Assure continued quality and user experience of tested products and assess the quality of newly developed and planned features.
  • Document and maintain test specifications and test reports.
  • Work in a fast-paced Agile environment.
  • Mentor junior team members.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or relevant professional experience with 4+ years of experience in Linux quality engineering (QE) or software engineering
  • Solid skills and background in Linux
  • Experience with software test planning, test case design and documentation
  • Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Ability to identify potential risks connected to test development of assigned features and mitigate them
  • Ability to collaborate with a global team, handle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English

Nice To Have

  • Knowledge of scripting, e.g., Python, Shell, Bash, or C programming, etc.
  • Knowledge of virtualization/emulation/containerization technologies, e.g. QEMU.
  • Knowledge of X Window System or any other windowing systems for Unix-like OS.
  • Experience with visual GPU technology, knowledge of Linux graphics stack e.g. Mesa, DRM, mutter, etc.
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Experience with Ansible or Ansible Tower is a plus
  • Experience with agile methodologies, Jira is a plus
  • Experience testing software for embedded systems and/or IoT applications or safety-critical applications
  • Experience with working on open-source projects
