Job Description

Eurovision Services is seeking an ambitious and self-driven Scrum Master to work with a team of highly talented individuals in our technology hub. The Scrum Master is a key member of the Eurovision Labs team, being responsible for educating the team in Agile/SCRUM principles & practices. She/he will join the international software engineering team in our brand-new office in Madrid, Spain.

ABOUT EUROVISION LABS

Eurovision Labs in Madrid is the new technology hub for the EBU's new subsidiary, Eurovision Services. The Labs will be responsible for delivering media & broadcast core solutions applying the most advanced software engineering techniques. The new offices in Madrid are specifically designed to boost creativity and facilitate innovation and learning in an amicable work environment. As part of the technology team, you will be working with top international engineers specialized in media while seeing your developments applied in Tier-1 worldwide sports and news content. The Scrum Master will be part of a small, talented and motivated core team that will support Eurovision Services in delivering the most innovative and reliable solutions for our customers around the world.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

In this role as a Scrum Master you will:


  • Educate the team in Agile/SCRUM principles & practices,

  • Ensure that sprint goals and scope are known to team members,

  • Facilitate daily scrums, sprint planning, retrospective and sprint review,

  • Maintain relevant metrics that help the team see how they are performing,

  • Take action to resolve problems and minimize delays,

  • Support the team and help them with high-level tech decisions,

  • Lead by example, e.g. write some code, push innovative thinking,

  • Help to continuously improve our software engineering practices, processes and tools,

  • Estimate and plan software development work while helping protect the team from

    uncontrolled expansion of work,

  • Ensure cross-team coordination,

  • Brainstorm with the software engineering team, product owners and software architects,

  • Assist the product owners by keeping the backlog refined,

  • Research new technologies to solve relevant problems, delivering proof-of-concepts as

    required.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


The successful candidate must have advanced knowledge of software programming and relevant experience developing using Agile/SCRUM methodology.

  • As with any engineer we hire, the ability to communicate well in English is crucial (English is the working language),

  • Must be capable of working independently to solve problems, provide direction and troubleshoot issues in a clear manner,

  • In-depth experience with object-oriented programming and data modeling,

  • Some years of experience working as part of a software development team using

    continuous integration, continuous deploy and automatic testing,

  • Experience scripting in Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Debian),

  • Some years of experience using Agile software development tools like Jira,

  • Proficiency implementing software in C++, Java or Python,

  • Ability to see the bigger picture and prioritize accordingly,

  • Experience building complex and innovative products from scratch (greenfield projects)

  • Experience growing and leading teams,

  • Ability to dive in and understand deep technical problems as well as comprehend team

    dynamics,

  • Experience working collaboratively with geographically distributed and international teams

    (our headquarters are located in Switzerland).

    ADDED VALUE

    Additional experience in the following areas would be a bonus:

  • Some experience in OTT/Media/Broadcast software development projects,

  • Knowledge of digital video concepts (container formats, codecs, compression schemes,

    tools, best practices, etc.).

Education:

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or similar degree (Master or Bachelor).
