A day in the life of a Project Manager at Vizzuality

We’re looking for someone who can work across teams at Vizzuality, collaborating with peers in business development, technology, design, science and user research. You will help improve the skills and performance of your peers and also allocate people efficiently to projects. You are someone who doesn’t have to look ‘up’ for approval, nor look ‘down’ and give instruction. You will be ultimately responsible for the client happiness and timeliness of our projects, as well as keeping team members informed and engaged so they perform at their best.

A PM at Vizzuality deeply understand our purpose and works relentlessly to align it to our projects, the way we make decisions, and ultimately to our partners success.
They are able to figure out how to work with them most effectively and to create a fruitful relationship. As part of that you’ll be able to describe how our teams work at Vizzuality, to help clients understand the project process and the key collaboration points along the way.
You will be responsible for ensuring projects are developed on time and to the highest quality.
As our projects are flexible and all different in nature, some days you could be focusing on defining a roadmap and project strategy. Some other days you could be thinking about product definition and what's the best way to solve a client’s need. And other days you will see yourself helping your team grow and deliver better. Its key that you are able to have a flexible and adaptable approach.
You will spend a lot of your time being the point of contact between the client and the project team. Understanding needs both from the client and the team so you can add value to their projects through clear communication as the team delivers functionalities valued by the user and client.
You are also a great communicator and facilitator. You are constantly scanning the skills and expertise of your team, to seek opportunities to do a better job in terms of quality, value and client satisfaction. You know when to lead and when to delegate and empower your team to do great things.
As our partners and projects are implemented across the world, you are comfortable working across different time zones, in english, and sometimes running workshops and face to face meetings abroad.

These are some of the things you will be achieving in your first year at Vizzuality

1) On your first month:

You’ll shadow one of our PMs so you get used to the way of doing things at Vizzuality.
You’ll familiarise yourself with much of the project documents from previous wireframes, designs, and feature descriptions, initial proposals and client communications
You’ll have time to learn the various software systems we use for running projects and join in with weekly and daily project meetings.
You’ll get to know people from the rest of the functional teams - science, design, front-end, back-end and business development.
At the end of your first month, you’ll be assigned to a project to work on with support from another PM.

2) During the following months:

You'll begin to be the first point of contact with our clients.
You'll input into new proposals, come up with new ideas about existing or new work.
You’ll be involved in the work planning of your team, to enable delivering our projects on time and budget.
You will work closely with your project team in order to plan the next releases and development sprints.

3) By the end of the first year:

You’ll be PMing one or more of our ground breaking projects (we absolutely mean this!);
You'll be meeting with clients, working with our teams and building the next great work from Vizzuality.
