Job Description

At Nextail, we empower retailers to create better experiences while using fewer of the world's resources. Nextail’s cloud-based platform uses artificial intelligence, prescriptive analytics, and optimization to deliver agile merchandising decisions. To date, we’re backed by more than $12M in funding from leading venture capital investors and are working with global retailers like Versace, River Island, and Pepe Jeans.

The Lead Product Designer at Nextail is responsible for designing beautiful, enabling and meaningful experiences that solve genuine customer problems. As a seasoned designer you’ll work closely with Product and Engineering on med-large scale projects. You’ll help define, design and deliver seamless product experiences. Working on your own design tasks, as well as assisting others through design collaboration, feedback and mentorship.

What will you do:

Design practice and thinking

  • Work closely with our engineering and product teams

  • Promote the value of design and collaborative practice across spheres of influence and participation

  • Conduct desk research including domain and competitor analysis, interaction/design trends and 'best of' examples

  • Analyse relevant considerations such as research insights (when not directly involved), product strategy and roadmaps, technical environment and constraints

  • Contribute to the definition and articulation of ‘the problem’ – challenging assumptions and 'pre-set' thinking around solutions, agreeing the purpose, principles and vision

  • Create frameworks (read wireframes low/high-fi, visual frameworks, content/data models etc) which articulate the components, journeys and elements required to solve 'the problem'

  • Explore ideal future concepts and identify new interaction solutions and patterns that meet customer needs in a better way

  • Develop phased design solutions that bridge the gap between a future state and current patterns, Nextail design system and other relevant constraints and considerations

  • Create prototypes which tangibly demonstrate a proposed concept or solution

  • Collaborate with other designers to test ideas, share challenges, provide feedback and build quality in your practice

  • Collaborate with content designers to ensure content within an experience is consistent, 'fit for purpose' and meets customer needs

  • Develop detailed interactions and interfaces which are smart and contextually relevant

  • Present and communicate design work to a range of different audiences

  • Create effective handover materials which clearly communicate how the design should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g. User flow diagrams, design specifications, experience/interaction specifications etc)

Design research and testing

  • Participate in generative user research to understand customer underlying goals, needs, behaviours and pain points (where necessary)

  • Participate in the synthesis of research data, drawing out and articulation of insights

  • Conduct user testing in conjunction with the Design Research team

Team Leading

  • You’ll contribute to the design vision and direction, working with the Design team and key relationships with Product leaders.

  • You’ll mentor others and lead by example, offering design critique, sharing your thoughts and domain knowledge, and helping others develop their skills and expertise. This could be anything from helping deliver the team’s professional development programme to hosting knowledge sharing sessions or even creating better processes that can be implemented across the wider team.

  • You will be responsible for developing your teams careers and enabling them to be the best they can be at Nextail

  • At Nextail we’re always growing! This means you’ll also be responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, engagement and management of new team members.

What success looks like:

  • You’re continually lifting the bar in your own product design work, creating inspiring and innovative solutions and you’re helping other Designers do the same

  • You’re respected by your peers, the design team, and Product leaders

  • You’re leading and delivering on schedule against agreed deadlines, to the highest quality standards

  • The designers impacted by you increase the consistency and quality of the experiences they deliver.

  • The teams impacted by you have a greater awareness of all the connecting dots and how to achieve seamless experiences.

  • The teams impacted by you regard engaging with design practices as a pathway to success.

We offer:

  • High flexibility: We’re strong believers that what matters most are results. Each Nextailer is empowered, through trust and ownership, to organize their time as they see fit without jeopardizing the time or work of their colleagues.

  • Remote-first philosophy: Nextail started as a remote company and continues to offer a nice mix of remote and/or office-based environments around the world.

  • International environment: We operate across the globe, with recent operations reaching from Europe all the way to Australia, and our team alone consists of professionals of more than 15 different nationalities. While many of us are multilingual, our working language is English.

  • Diversity on all levels: United as a single team, we celebrate diversity at every dimension. Professionally speaking, are you ready to work alongside tech geniuses, data science magicians, and fashionistas? You’ll have teammates with extensive experience in a wide variety of professional fields, including technology, retail, consulting and entrepreneurship.

  • The laptop of your choice: We want you to work with the tools that are most comfortable for you!

  • Flexible compensation plan: We offer a fixed + variable salary as well as company equity as we progress towards our Series B fundraising round.

You bring:

  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary design teams working on complex software.

  • Demonstrable success in creating, launching, scaling, and maintaining digital products.

  • Design skills - You'll have a strong background in Product Design. A career based on understanding of the design process and best practices, with a proven ability to define and improve a team’s design practices

  • We're scaling at speed - you'll need to have a track record of leading diverse teams, developing talent, and leading with positivity and inspiration.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates high-quality design outcomes, contributing to user experience and business value

  • An inclusive, collaborative approach that helps maintain our values and contributes to making Nextail a great place to work

Please provide a link to or copy of your portfolio with your application as well as any passwords needed for the hiring team to view.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working on AI products and deep understanding on how to build data driven experiences.

  • Understanding of retail dynamics - exposure to fashion retail is a plus.
