With our rapid growth, we’re looking for a smart and passionate Lead Data Scientist to further develop and take operational responsibility for our Data Science team, reporting to our Head of Operations as part of the Operations team in our Barcelona office.
Our Data Science team’s main goal is to optimise the marketplace in every aspect. The team is responsible for our Business Intelligence tool (Looker) with corresponding databases, our search algorithm to improve matches between dog sitters and owners, as well as continuous end-user A/B testing across all aspects of the product and user experience.
The team also provide cross-functional analytics support on an ad-hoc basis to those across the organization that require more complex analyses.
Build and manage the Data science team (currently 1 additional person)
Working with the Head of Operations and senior management, to improve the quality and efficiency of the business through data analysis
Take ownership of and improve our search algorithm to improve matches between dog sitters and owners
Run a myriad of analyses to optimise all sides of the business from first time conversion to large scale marketing campaigns and ongoing customer journey / lifecycle management and measurement
Develop our customer segmentation plan to improve dog owner retention, as well as booking recency, frequency and lifetime value of users
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoying hands-on execution and using data analysis to identify and optimize all aspects of the consumer journey.
This position requires a big appetite for data science, a strong willingness to keep learning in a field constantly evolving and an ability to clearly communicate projects and outcomes to a broad and diverse team.
Real-world experience with online consumer marketplaces and/or startup/high-growth businesses
You are used to work with different agile methodologies such as Scrum/Kanban/XP and you are also comfortable with evolving processes.
B.S. in a quantitative discipline or computer science required; advanced degree (MSc or PhD) preferred
5+ years experience as a data scientist or similar
Strong technical and coding skills in Python, SQL
You are comfortable with database management and performance optimisation.
You know how to use version control systems, such as Mercurial/Git and are familiar with Continuous Integration/Deployment tools.
You know how to use Unix systems and command line tools.
Experience with Looker or similar data visualization/BI tools
Experience with Google Analytics, Mixpanel or similar user funnel analytics tools
Experience in online user A/B, split testing
Fluent in English
