Job Description

Background

Deliveroo is one of Europe’s fastest growing companies and its last funding round confirmed it as one of the few UK ‘unicorns’ in the global technology hall of fame. The business grew at 116% in 2017 and is now present in 14 markets and in over 500 towns and cities globally.  Deliveroo works with 80,000 restaurants, 60,000 riders, and has approximately 2,500 staff in its headquarters and country operations.

Public Affairs sits within the communications and policy team. This team’s role is vital to the business, charged with effectively communicating the positive impact Deliveroo is having for customers, restaurants and riders, helping to mitigate risks and developing solutions to problems by engaging with influencers and decision-makers.

Working in corporate affairs in Deliveroo means being involved early in decisions regarding policy and operational matters. The company is doing something new, and with that come questions from policy makers and opinion formers with whom Deliveroo wishes to engage.

The Role

The role leads on all public affairs issues in Spain, working closely with the General Manager in Spain and other senior figures across the company.

The role of the public affairs leads at Deliveroo is to ensure the company is a partner in helping government, regulators and stakeholders deliver their priorities; to ensure the company is proactive in dealing with challenges and in demonstrating our commitment to the communities in which we operate; to build brand trust and be seen as a responsible, British company.

More specifically, the role involves: advising on how to handle regulatory challenges Deliveroo faces;  advising the company on political implications of policy and operations decision; devising stakeholder engagement programmes; horizon-scanning for political, reputational and regulatory risks; advising on how to handle reactive, high profile political situations; leading the company’s contribution to all relevant public consultations; preparing spokespeople for meetings and committee appearances; managing a corporate affairs agency; working closely with the corporate media team to ensure the media ‘grid’ is in line with public affairs objectives; playing a key role in devising campaigns and CSR initiatives. This role will be central to the positioning of Deliveroo globally as it establishes its presence as a food and tech company, not only a delivery company.

This role will be part of determining how Deliveroo leads the technology sector in engaging with issues such as the future of work, robotics and automation and the future of the Spanish food and restaurant sectors.

Important ingredients for the right candidate for the Head of Public Affairs Spain will be:

Experience of heading up a Public Affairs team.

An excellent understanding of the political landscape in the Spain.

A demonstrable record of success in campaigning and influencing political decision-making in Spain, with strong pre-existing relationships.

An in-depth understanding of the policy and regulatory issues facing companies in the on-demand economy in Spain.

Experience having worked in media and within politics is desirable.
