The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. Context and Mission of the role:

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is looking for a Head of Data Management to join the BSC-CNS's Operations Department. She/he will be in charge of manage and coordinate the data management services helping users working in the BSC services data management, data repositories and data services with workflows. Also, the position will have an important role in European and national projects to coordinate different tasks and to cooperate with other centers and work together in EU infrastructures to reinforce the use of HPC and Big Data around the EU researchers.

Responsibilities:

 The main tasks will be:

  •  Supporting BSC in the definition of a Vision and Strategy around Data Management

  • Provide help to researchers in the definition and deployment of their data management plans
  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management
  • Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support others in the daily use of data services and ensure adherence to legal and company standards
  • Assist with reports and data extraction when needed
  • Monitor and analyze information on data services and evaluate their performance to discover ways of enhancing them
  • Ensure digital databases and archives are protected from security breaches and data losses
  • Troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications in their services
  • Definition and implementation of a Data Governance and Organization
  • Support about data topics and workflows to researchers within their work field: (Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, ... )
  • Participating in European e-infrastructures projects that Operations department participates for instance, EUDAT, PRACE and HBP
  • Interact with System administration group, specifically provide feedback about data services requirements to have them in consideration for current and future data infrastructures
  • Interact with HPC user support group, specifically for data management and data staging

Qualifications:

Education:                              

  • PhD in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics or related discipline

 Knowledge and Professional Experience:

  • at least 5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience on data analysis/analytics
  • Experience on management of very large data volume
  • Experience with porting and optimization of applications on UNIX-based systems
  • Experience/Knowledge in working with codes programmed in Fortran, C, MPI, OpenMP, and other parallel methods
  • Experience/Knowledge with the use of performance analysis tools, compiler analysis tools, and debuggers
  • Experience developing, debugging, maintaining, supporting, and using application software
  • A thorough understanding of high performance computing architectures
  • Experience in Semantic annotation web
  • Experience with non-relation databases

Conditions

- Permanent position. Open ended contract

- A competitive salary will be provided, matched to the cost of living in Barcelona, depending on the value of the candidate (degree and experience)
