Job Description

The Red Hat Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for an Automation Engineer focused on cloud development to join us in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. In this role, you will help to deliver a story of Open Hybrid Cloud to developers while working on managed services distributed in the cloud and running on OpenShift. You will work predominantly in the Golang language. You will have the opportunity to work with cloud technologies, containers, and virtual machines (VMs). As an Automation Engineer, you will provide a smooth user experience for developers by covering the solutions through continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) and automation of functional and non-functional requirements. You will closely cooperate with distributed engineering teams, product managers, and other quality engineering (QE) teams with the goal to bring continuous development practices into the team. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Quality engineers at Red Hat are intrigued by how things work and constantly look for ways to make them better. They are not just testers; they are also developers who design, automate, and find creative ways to solve potential problems. At Red Hat, you can shape your software development skills in a different way. Our engineers share their stories about working in Red Hat QE in this video: https://red.ht/QE.

Red Hat is an open organization, where good ideas matter more than rank or tenure, and you can be a part of our unique culture. We are guided by the Open Decision Framework and Open Management Practices while also celebrating diversity and inclusion. Your continuous growth is supported by extensive learning opportunities, including Red Hat learning modules and certifications as well as Red Hat University (RHU) courses.

What you will do

  • Engineer automation frameworks, automated tests, and automated quality checks into CI/CD processes for managed services
  • Serve as an internal advocate for our customers
  • Analyze product source code and propose appropriate test and automation strategies, both for functional and non-functional requirements
  • Propose and co-implement telemetry opportunities to understand how customers are using the services
  • Serve as the advocate for quality and refine acceptance criteria of new features and identify interdependencies

What you will bring

  • Professional coding experience in Go, e.g., routines, channels, and Kubernetes API libraries
  • Background in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or managed services
  • Direct experience with Kubernetes or other container platforms including application deployment
  • Experience with automation of complex tasks or test cases
  • Experience with CI/CD, e.g., GitHub Actions, Tekton, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or equivalent
  • Experience with Linux and shell scripting, e.g., use of variables, flow control, positional parameters, etc.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Basic understanding of common cloud platforms, e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Knowledge of cloud service development
  • Foundational experience with agile methodologies
  • Ability to define and understand system performance testing in a cloud environment
  • Basic knowledge of security aspects of programing, e.g., thread modeling and supply chain security
