Job Description

ABOUT US

Based in Barcelona, Spain—the growing technical hub of Europe—CodeOp offers Full Stack Web Development and Data Engineering bootcamps designed to provide women and TGNC folks with the foundations needed to advance their careers in tech.

CodeOp is a social venture that launched in 2018. Our mission is to encourage women, as well as trans, and gender nonconforming students, to pursue a fulfilling career in tech; to equip them with the skills needed to become leading developers and data engineers in their fields; and to launch a supportive network of professionals who will transform the culture of tech.

We are a small, laid-back team coming from California, Venezuela, Italy, and Spain with backgrounds in data science, education, engineering and technical talent recruitment; and we are working hard to become the first global coding school for communities that have been marginalized. We are currently backed by a large group of investors and board of advisors. In early 2020, we will be launching our bootcamps in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are hiring an instructor—of all genders and non—for our full-time, 11-week full stack development courses. This is a full-time permanent position for a mid- to senior-level professionals.

Classes are intentionally small (12 students or less) so that you can focus on individual mentorship and support. Students meet from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm daily. Each day will consist of approximately ~2-3 hours of instructor-led lecture or code review. You will have time between lectures to work on curriculum, provide support for students, and prepare for the next day. Classes are taught in English and students come from around the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the UK, etc.

The curriculum is largely built-out, so aside from providing instruction and support to our students, you will also be contributing to making this startup a success.

JOB PRIORITIES

I. Delivering a life-changing experience to students.

Your first priority will be to give your students the mindset and technical skills to succeed as junior engineers. To do this, you will need to be a mentor, teacher, and a coach– responding to learning needs and adjusting curriculum and teaching as required.

II. Curriculum Development.

Our curriculum includes: JavaScript fundamentals, data structures, Git, React.js, Vue, Node.js, Express, MySQL, and Heroku. The foundation (a comprehensive scope and sequence, activities, starter repositories) already exists– but may need modifications. Lecture slides are minimal: you are encouraged to live code examples, use whiteboard explanations, and build more depth into these presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:
3+ years working as a full stack software engineer
Knowledge of modern methodologies and JavaScript frameworks
Patience, friendliness, and the ability to make confusing things clear for others
Preference is given to applicants with experience working as a teacher and developing curriculum
Ability to roll with the pace and independence of start-up culture

BENEFITS
24-hour access to Spaces 22, a shared co-working space in Poblenou
Be part of a collaborative team, a community of support and continuous learning
Possibility to create and suggest improvements
Contribute to a social impact by teaching underrepresented people to become developers and make the tech scene more balanced
