Job Description

1 - The Problem

Type 2 diabetes and obesity are huge problems, both for the millions of people that suffer from lifestyle diseases, as well as healthcare systems like the NHS.

In the UK we spend almost 10% of the NHS budget on treating type 2 diabetes alone (£9 billion/year). What's shocking is almost all of this is avoidable, 80-90% in fact.

How? Through sustained lifestyle and weight loss. It sounds so simple, but in reality is much harder to achieve at scale.

2 - OurPath

OurPath provide a digital lifestyle improvement programme that is proven to help people improve their lifestyle and lose weight, which ultimately reduces their risk for conditions such as type 2 diabetes.

The programme incorporates evidence-based education, health coaches, peer group support, and digital tracking tools. Everything is delivered digitally through phone and web apps.

We provide OurPath directly to the NHS for people living with type 2 diabetes, and you an also buy the programme as a consumer on our website.

About us: We are now a team of 15 – consisting of ex-strategy consultants, dietitians, designers, and developers. We believe OurPath is a fun place to work with an informal, non-bureaucratic, and agile working environment. You’ll also have a nice amount of autonomy over your work-life balance. Finally, we will provide endless amounts of poor jokes and sub-standard humour. Just so you know.

3 - The Job

Small screen and an SDK: The possibilities are endless!

We’re now running the OurPath programme with hundreds of people across the UK – on iOS, Android, and our web app.

In order to speed up new features for our users and time-to-market, we’d like to begin building new features using React Native for our iOS and Android apps. This will allow us to have a more consistent codebase which is really important on a small team trying to make a big impact.

This role will see you leading on that transition – building new feature sets and leading the mobile product team.

We’re expecting a lot from the person who fills this role. You’ll be responsible for the main point of interaction OurPath users have with the programme and we’d expect you to use best practices. That responsibility comes with a highly flexible working environment and a mandate to design and build the best solution as you see fit – the ideal candidate will thrive here.

We’re also looking for someone who wants to stretch themselves professionally and who is engaged in the tech community. Like implementing solutions with the latest tech? Constantly tweaking your toolchain to optimise your own workflow? People know your face at AngularConnect or React London? We want you! We’re not so concerned with your exact expertise. You can learn on the job, we get it.

4 - Skills & Expertise

CORE EXPERTISE

- Native iOS or Android experience (Objective-C, Swift or Java)
- Core JavaScript and an MVC framework like Angular or React
- Are familiar with React-Native, even if you haven’t programmed in it
- Package managers, like NPM
- Testing frameworks Git – we’re big on branching workflows, pull requests and code reviews
- Code deployment, like Jenkins or AWS CodeDeploy

IDEALLY

- You’ll love great design and appreciate good UX
- Be completely comfortable with RESTful APIs
- Know your way around databases
- Understand how Node.js works
- Be familiar with AWS Services like EC2 & AutoScaling, Lambda, CloudFront, Route53

5 - What can we offer you?

- An exciting job at one of the first digital behavioural change programmes ever commissioned by the NHS
- Exposure to lots of different elements of development of an early stage healthcare startup - as well as opportunity to work directly with the founders
- A fun place to work in central London
- Daily inspiration, exposure to lots of interesting and passionate people in our work space that are also helping to solve important problems

6 To Apply

This position is available to start immediately, so please send your CV and a short email why you’d like to work here to chris@ourpath.co.uk

We’ll be interviewing on a rolling basis, so the quicker you can apply the better.

If Chris doesn't respond within 7 days then he's not intentionally being rude but please assume it's probably a no for now.
