As the world’s largest social
network for language learning busuu has already had great success. But
there is so much more that we want to build and improve upon.
We’re looking for smart, agile and
independent engineers who can help take the busuu web app to the next
level, providing more amazing ways for our users to interact with one
another and further improve their learning. You'll be someone who loves
the user experience, can build beautiful and scalable client-side web
applications and isn’t afraid to share opinions on the best way to
design the APIs they’ll be consuming.
We’ve got users spread out across the
world, with some of our largest markets being in Brazil, Russia, Turkey
and China. You’ll need to think not just about the latest technology,
but also how our users, who may not be using the latest and greatest
devices, will interact with our product.
Why is a Front End Engineer important at busuu?
While native mobile apps are a massive
growth area for us, the majority of our users still experience busuu
through the web. It’s also our longest serving platform, having been at
the core of the busuu experience right from the start (before anyone had
ever uttered the words “App Store”!). It is incredibly important for us
to continue building an amazing web user experience, both now and into
the future, and to find people that are passionate about an amazing
experience.
What does a Front End Engineer do at busuu?
As a Front End Engineer, you’ll impact
the daily experience of our 60 million users, more than nearly any other
platform out there. You’ll get to think about how users interact with
our learning experience, how to help them learn better and faster and
then build an experience that everyone can enjoy learning with, across
all of our platforms.
You’ll be at the centre of our biggest
and most exciting phase yet, making big decisions that will help you
grow and define your career as a Software Engineer. You’ll have the
opportunity to architect some cool, current features, and to develop
ones that we have in the pipeline. You’ll ship code often, support it
all the way to production and work with other client teams, product
teams, and our backend team to ensure a joined-up experience for our
users.
Finally, you'll work on a state of the
art AngularJS application, building against new and existing APIs that
we’re constantly implementing and rebuilding to meet the evolving needs
of our users.
What makes a great Front End Engineer at busuu?
- Excellent knowledge of AngularJS (or another JS framework) and Javascript.
- Expertise of the DOM, HTML, CSS and associated web technologies.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs and Back End Engineers.
- Experience with cross-browser support and client side performance considerations.
- Ability to translate a design into HTML and CSS.
- Strong design and UX sensibilities.
