Job Description

Scoot's Engineering R&D Technician will help test and develop the most advanced fleet of electric vehicles in the world, including electric scooters, electric cars, electric bicycles, and other types of light electric vehicles. The Engineering R&D Technician will work with Scoot's R&D and Fleet teams to validate new hardware and develop assembly procedures for the entire vehicle fleet.

Your work would involve:

    • Assembly - under direction of design engineer, assemble test samples or modules to evaluate. Assembly includes soldering and reworking printed circuit boards.
    • Prototyping - with minimal direction of design engineer, create modules or complete assemblies to evaluate. Prototyping includes building wiring harnesses and 3D printed models.  
    • Testing - under specific test plan of a design engineer, perform and document functional tests. Testing will require operating multimeters, oscilloscopes, and frequency counters, as well as driving development vehicles.  
    • Lab management - maintain prototyping and fabrication equipment, and inventory prototype hardware.

You will need:

    • University degree in Engineering or related discipline; trade school with professional certification (formación profesional) may be considered
    • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
    • Enjoy working as a team in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to learn quickly
    • Strong understanding circuit fundamentals and troubleshooting
    • PCBA soldering skills (TH and SMT components)
    • Ability to read schematics and harness drawings
    • Experience with Digital Fabrication (3D printing, waterjet cutting, laser cutting)
    • Military electronics training experience a plus
    • High proficiency in English, native proficiency in Spanish

You will stand out as a candidate if you are enthusiastic about motorized two-wheeled vehicles and own one, or perhaps more than one. Basic understanding of Automotive/Motorcycle 12v systems is preferred amongst candidates. On top of that, experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other “Embedded Linux” style systems is highly preferred! More importantly than either of these is the desire to take things apart to learn more about them, putting them back together is optional!
