At Returnly we help merchants turn product returns into new revenue streams. We are a Silicon Valley startup and we have recently opened an office in downtown Madrid (near Alonso Martinez subway station). We’re are a financial technology services company that builds award-winning products which make shoppers’ propensity to repurchase go through the roof. We’re backed by smart money VCs in Fintech and one of the most well-funded startups in the San Francisco Bay Area. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

    • Collaborate with passionate engineers, designers and product managers, creating delightful products that customers love
    • Communicate and deliver to commitments and increase the velocity of our teams by removing roadblocks
    • Mentor, grow and inspire team members, from new graduates to 15+ years of experience, to continue scaling our organization
    • Motivate and enable individual development and promote career growth of the team
    • Embody and champion servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, group engagement, inclusion advocacy, continual improvement, transparency, and employee wellbeing
    • Prioritize, direct and appraise the activities of engineers
    • Assertively lead and be a change agent: continuously observe, review and improve the team's productivity and efficiency
    • Align with our VP of Engineering to drive engineering process and build an engineering culture and brand that is a talent magnet
    • Ensure we hit our engineering hiring plans, leveraging a personal network formed from being effective at ongoing recruiting, and based on solid understanding of local IT-talent marketplaces and regional differences
    • Work closely with Product Management, providing technical guidance as needed and to ensure that feature updates are delivered timely and with the highest quality code
    • Prioritize and manage resource allocation for the products based on changing business priorities, direction and budget
    • Champion software development best practices within the organization including design, architecture, code refactoring, performance, XP engineering practices, and quality
    • Ensure that product architecture and technology decisions support corporate strategies and future direction of the products.· Assist QA and Customer Success teams with the investigation and resolution of issues

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

    • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics, or equivalent experience
    • 5+ years managing and leading high-growth engineering teams in multiple locations and time zones
    • Knowledge and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, relative sizing, leveraging velocity for predictability, team-created definitions of done, cross-functional teams, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games, etc
    • Knowledge of multiple approaches in the Agile space: Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.
    • Knowledge of and experience modeling and evangelizing Agile values and Agile culture, and empowering self-organization and excellence
    • Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
    • Strong technical background in cloud/SaaS platform development and management
    • Broad knowledge of programming languages, software architecture, design and database systems
    • Experience in e-commerce or fintech building applications and technology that delight and engage shoppers and foster growth
    • Proven experience building, growing, retaining and inspiring a world-class team of technologists
    • Proven success in recruiting, creating and motivating a strong performing engineering team
    • Track record for delivery in high-growth, fast-paced environment
    • You champion and drive a culture of continuous learning to improve execution and remove roadblocks that are holding the team back
    • You are a strategic partner who can translate business problems to technology solutions
    • You empower self-organization and responsibility within your teams
    • Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to present information that demonstrates command of the information and ability to connect with the audience
    • Proven customer service orientation
    • Strong analytical/problem solving. Addresses issues with thoughtfulness and urgency
    • Strong decision-making abilities. Good judgment, sound logic, and ability to learn new things quickly
    • Strong collaboration skills, works well with teams across the organization
    • Excellent organization, project and task management skills
    • Fluent English and Spanish a must
