Job Description

Typeform started with a bathroom.

Many moons ago, Robert Muñoz and David Okuniev ran their own design studios when the opportunity to collaborate on a project presented itself. The problem? Develop an out-of-the-box lead gen solution for a bathroom company's showroom floor. This required a form to collect data, but a typical one just wouldn't do.

Robert and David believed that web forms were irritating, uninspiring, and ugly—a serious affront on the eyeballs. They had a vision of what could be: a conversation between two humans, with a digital interface in between to help collect the data.

Inspired by the cult classic film War Games, the co-founders experimented with different question-and-answer interfaces. The result? The precursor to Typeform—an accidental, happy birth.

Today, Typeform mimics the fluidity of human conversation. Questions are asked one at a time, responding dynamically to answers just as you would in real life. The intuitive interface is  optimized for mobile and tablet. This means increased completion rates (55% compared to 20% for traditional web forms) and better data for the typeform creator.

Typeform’s mission is simple: Bring the best data collection experience to people, by making it conversational.

Now, thousands of individuals and companies across the world use Typeform to ask questions and collect information from customers, audiences, and employees. Typeform employs around 200 people (and one dog) that represent over 40 different nationalities.

How does Typeform make money?

Typeform uses a three-tiered freemium SaaS business model starting with Basic, then allowing users to upgrade to PRO or PRO+ to unlock more features. Virality is built into the product using a simple powered-by button—when the product impresses people, they click to learn more. This model produces exponential growth—and continues to attract a loyal, engaged global user base.

Have a look:

  • 30m+ humans are exposed to Typeform every month
  • The company grew by over 100% in 2017

Typeform has raised $17.5m from venture capital investors including Point Nine Capital, Connect Ventures, RTA Ventures and Index Ventures.

Led by General Atlantic, Typeform announced a Series B round in September 2017 bringing in a further $35M in funding, and one of the largest for a Southern European company. It will go towards product development, marketing, scaling the team in Barcelona, and looking for expansion in the US—the firm’s largest market.

What now?

It’s time for Typeform to accelerate growth and lead the $20+ billion global market. The founders and investors expect to grow revenue without touching the core business and unique culture at Typeform.

For employees, Typeform is a space for career fulfillment and creative expression. Perks help, and are well thought-out. The reception is a bar—not just because free coffee and beer is nice (it is)—but because that’s where conversations naturally take place. You develop relationships. You build trust. You map out the next successful product on the back of a paper napkin.

Trust is key. It’s flat, open, and transparent. New leadership talent will fit within and expand this culture. It’s a vital part of the growth plan.

We’ve created a developer partnership strategy, set to launch in San Francisco in 2018. The developer community can transform Typeform’s technology into a problem-solving platform and a world standard for conversational data collection.

What’s the opportunity?

As you can see, there are a lot of moving parts (and data) to manage and protect. As Corporate Counsel, you will oversee all legal aspects of our business. You’ll provide cutting-edge legal advice on many areas that matter for the company. In short, you will help Typeform stay ahead of the curve as an international company and manage legal risk.

Here’s Huw, our CFO:

“This is the first role of this type in the company. It's a chance to build something from scratch and make it your own. That comes with the challenge of starting from zero, but also the excitement of building the future.”

So, we’ve got one question for you. How do you help us replace “no,  because” with “yes, if”.

The Role

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Ensure compliance of global operations with applicable IT Law, data privacy laws (GDPR, HIPAA etc) regulations, consumer law and SaaS best practices.
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (labour law, partnerships, consumer law, e-communications, international ventures, tax, corporate finance etc.)
  • Drafting of the new versions of the Terms of Use/Privacy Policy/Cookies Policy.
  • Negotiate, write, and execute agreements and contracts on behalf of the company (including but not limited to: supplier contracts, customer contracts, partner agreements and DPAs).
  • Help Typeform comply with Spanish and US Federal + State Governance Laws.
  • Continuously assess operating risks and legal needs and ensure the company is equipped to provide outstanding services as we grow globally.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage outside counsel to achieve objectives.
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization.

You

Here’s what we’d like to see:

  • Language skills so you can draft in multiple languages (Business level English and Spanish a must).
  • Proven experience as a legal counsel in a global business environment (SaaS experience highly desirable, Technology, and IT Law experience essential).
  • Be a clear and compelling communicator so legal information is understandable and actionable across the company.
  • Must have a law degree from a recognized university.
  • Must have 5+ years of experience gained in large law firm and/or in-house (in house is prefered).
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and be proactive in your work.
  • Experience working in high growth environments where external and internal conditions change rapidly (entrepreneurial spirit or experience strongly preferred).
  • Excellent knowledge and experience working with data privacy/compliance laws and regulation.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience working with IT Law and consumer laws and regulations.
  • Experience in legal proceedings/data breach reporting with European Data Protection Agencies (Spanish AEPD is preferred).
