Database Engineer in London

The Role:

Our Infrastructure & Operations Delivery team covers a very big span of technology types including Data Centres, Wide Area Networking, Office Infrastructure networks and services, Application packaging and delivery, Physical and Virtual server technologies and Corporate Database provision.

We are currently looking to recruit a Database Engineer to work within the Infrastructure and Operations team who will take ownership of all databases across the business

A Database Engineer at Zopa will be working closely with development, testing and application support teams to support, maintain and enhance our existing database infrastructure in pre-production and production support environments, helping improve existing and new application functionality, ensuring procedures, policies, and best practices are kept up to date.

This Database Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the SQL Server database environments, ensuring that they’re supported and fit for purpose, paying particular attention to security best practice. It also involves providing QA for database designs and code written by developers.

A Database Engineer must have:

• Several years of experience as MS SQL Administrator or MS SQL Developer
• Experience with OLTP systems
• Experience with large databases
• Experience with HADR
• T-SQL at mother tongue level

We would also like our Database Engineer to have:

• Understanding of data warehousing concepts
• Experience in agile development
• Experience with 3rd part tools for DB monitoring, alerting, documenting, planning etc
• Understanding of basic infosec
• Some experience in data governance

Also worth noting:

• Participation in on-call rotation for weekends and nights
• On very rare occasions, some tasks will have to be done in very unsociable hours
