CTO in London

Future Finance, Europe’s largest student lender and a top fintech business, needs an incredible CTO. We have huge plans to redefine finance for young Europeans over the next 5 years and need an amazing tech leader to take us there.

From a standing start in 2014, Future Finance has lent nearly £50m in support of 6,000 fantastic students in the UK and Germany. To get here, we’ve raised €47m from marquis equity investors and £50m in debt financing from Goldman Sachs. Pretty good for a 2-year-old.

Our ambition is immense but our mission is simple: we believe that young people deserve a lot more credit and much better financial services than are currently available. All our plans are aimed at freeing European young people from the absurdities of old-school banking. As such, we need flexible and dynamic tech that builds on our success to-date and empowers the business to sprint forward.

Future Finance’s two stakeholders are our customers and our internal customer service and processing teams. We have proprietary products for each. Our stack is React & Rails + Node/SQL. Core to our product is a flexibility to adapt to new financial products and new customer profiles. We want to continue our push to automate the entire process and slowly introduce our exciting and new under-wraps approach to lending.

We need a CTO who can lead us there. Someone who knows how to manipulate a gamut of technologies to achieve outstanding customer experiences. Someone who can balance the existing needs of the business while laying the groundwork for the future. Someone who understands that every startup is a work in progress and that moving quickly means prioritizing intelligently and deciding quickly.

You can master the following:

- Own it. Really, truly grasp the needs of the business and our customers and be a full partner to the business people in defining those needs. Be very smart and relentless in understanding what the business needs for success. Ask and ask again until clarity is total. Take nothing for granted.
- Be visionary. We love tech, we love new tech even more, and we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Developing FF’s systems to be adaptive with the flexibility to incorporate the next new thing requires vision and foresight. We want to stay cutting-edge, and the right leader will make that happen.
- And be practical. Perfect is the nemesis of great. We’ve come so far in such a short time by efficiently layering practicality onto our love of tech for tech’s sake. Our CTO needs to master this balance.
- Build a great team. Amazing customer experience and powerful backends are built by great individuals working as a team. FF’s CTO needs to be a mentor and a coach and must be able to attract great future talent.
