Job Description

We are looking for a talented Cloud System Engineer to join our Cloud Service team based in Madrid.

In the Cloud Services team, we build the mission critical platform which Pix4D web product teams rely on, currently mainly composed of Python API services interacting with cloud provider services. Our platform is the cornerstone of Pix4D’s web strategy and is heavily used by internal and external customers to process their 2D and 3D rendering. For these customers reliability, security and performance must meet high standards.

You will play a central role in the architecture, development, delivery and scaling of our services. Your contribution with other software engineers will help the team increase the resiliency and capacity of our services of the platform. You will face challenges regarding a live system handling very large datasets, lots of processing capacity.

As a Cloud engineer you strive to perform operations in an invisible way for your customers, turn production incidents into learning and automation, while ensuring the security of the platform remains or improves. You are passionate about the scale of the infrastructure you are managing and the resiliency of the distributed systems in it. You enjoy sharing good practices via reviews and learning from others. You like your terminal most and hate moving a cursor around to do things.


Responsibilities

  • Continuously improve the observability of the platform and the feedback loops for getting relevant information about potential problems before they happen.
  • Exercise site reliability engineering best practices in operations and infrastructure management.
  • Work on the performance and resiliency aspects of the processing infrastructure powering the Pix4D cloud platform.
  • Active participation in the operation of the platform.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to build and deploy new solutions to improve and expand the automation and the security of the Pix4D cloud platform.
  • Actively participate in engineering discussions to share knowledge and experiences to increase expertise among engineers.
  • Investigate cutting-edge technologies to discover new potential applications or improvements.

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years of proven experience to maintain scalable, resilient, performant and observable systems.
  • At least 3+ years of experience operating production systems.
  • Solid background in operating, maintaining and deploying services on cloud service providers (AWS is a plus).
  • Familiar with security principles, keys management, common security flaws and best practices is a plus.
  • Excellent skills in solving problems, hunting down issues and fixing them.
  • Curious and with the willingness to understand how things work.
  • Actively looking for opportunities to make improvements in products, processes, or organization levels.
  • Proficient English communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Recommended qualifications

    It is recommended to have experience with some of the following:

    • container orchestrators
    • infrastructure as code tools like: Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, Salt
    • Python coding
    • observability tools usage and configuration like: Grafana, Prometheus

    It is recommended to be able to justify some of those experiences:

    • multi-regions cloud provider deployment and management
    • active management of high-available platforms
    • cloud native automation at scale
    • incident management

Recommended qualifications

It is recommended to have experience with some of the following:

  • Django, Flask, Falcon;
  • API design and formats: Rest, OpenAPI, JSON;
  • AWS infrastructure and services such as EC2, ECS, SQS, RDS, S3;
  • container based CI/CD pipelines such as: Github Actions, Gitlab CI, Concourse.

It is recommended to be able to justify some of those experiences:

  • deploying cloud application at scale
  • distributed application understanding & design
  • modern software & engineering practices (continuous delivery, code reviews, tests automation, incremental delivery and improvements, effective git)
