Job Description

About us

At Trail, we're on a mission to make operations effortless for everyone.

Most people use hospitality, retail and other service-sector businesses every day. Many of us will have had a job working in these sectors at some point. It’s about long hours, tough work and is run on old-fashioned admin tools. At Trail (trailapp.com), we're trying to change that with a simple app to guide teams through their days.

We’re a passionate team of 16 with a Moorgate office.  We’ve had a very successful first few years and we’re scaling up as a company.  At Trail, everyone has a voice and an opportunity to help shape what we are and what we’ll become.

Role Overview

As Business Development Engineer you will work with the Head of Business Development with close coordination with our Head of Marketing.

Trail’s commercial function has been driven using classic outbound sales techniques.  We love what we’ve achieved and it’s producing the numbers, but we want to challenge ourselves as a business by scaling the amazing team we’ve built.

We’re setting out to optimize each activity that wins a customer.  We want this to be a fixed process, repeatable at volume - an automated sales playbook.

Qualities

We assess our team based on two qualities, Leadership and Skills.  Here’s what we’re looking for in each:

Essential Skills

  • A ‘jack/jill of all trades’ who can apply creativity, technology and drive to win customers.

  • Research expert. Able to find the best routes to leads, and build relationships with supplier to enrich that data.

  • A closer. Able to bring a customer over the line - in the early days this may be a phone call, but you’ll work out how to scale that too.

  • Wordsmyth.  Witty and quick in your written word, able to convey the right message in a few words.  Able to understand and set a tone. Excellent written english is a must.

  • Data-driven. Using HubSpot and other tools to measure success and capitalise on what’s working - as well as recognising what is not.

  • Analytical. Able to draw out repeatable actions and work with Bus Ops and Marketing to turn them into products.

  • Commercial. Can structure a sound business case, comparing costs and benefits in a customer business.

  • Numbers focused.  5436/12 in your head?  No problem.

  • Technologist.  You know your WhatsApp from your FourSquare but also understand tools like Zapier, Slack and Intercom.  You can use them and build with them.

  • Two ears, one mouth: you’re great at outbound sales but you have the customer’s issues and needs front and centre.

Your Background

  • Experience in hospitality, retail or leisure industry essential

  • Some experience of B2B solution selling

  • Knowledge of Challenger Sale method a bonus

  • Highly experience with CRM Software and pipeline creation

  • Extensive LinkedIn presence and social network

  • London office - but we do offer remote working

Package

  • Competitive salary

  • Minimum 33 days holiday per annum

  • Equity in company

  • MacBook and Phone

  • Great career progression opportunities

  • A great working culture, remote work, trips abroad, work outings and fun!
