Building the observability platform for the next-generation grocery ecommerce suite that´s changing the way the world shops

The Engineering Productivity stream mission is to enable teams through technology and engineering practice to improve productivity and effectiveness.

The Observability area focuses on the needs of those streams to observe application performance, outcome and value.

You will be part of a team comprising other Software and DevOps engineers, a Team Lead, and a Product Manager. You will enable our developers to understand what's happening across all the environments and among the technologies, so they can detect and resolve issues to keep our systems efficient and reliable and our customers happy.

Our primary programming language is Java, and with a DevOps mindset we make the best use of the latest technologies and platforms like Terraform, AWS, GCP, Grafana, PagerDuty, etc.

Based in our Barcelona office in the heart of the 22@ hub, this amazing community of 27+ nationalities offers an unparalleled culture focused on growth and learning.

 

Some things you might work on:

•            Find the right tools and practices in the Observability domain to help our product teams on supporting their applications.

•            Enable solutions for monitoring, root cause finding, reliability tracking with a zero or minimal configuration objective.

•            Support the teams in their Observability journey (Best practices, hands-on help, training sessions & workshop)

•            Develop, build and support the software & tools we need internally.

•            Build “the glue” in our Ocado Technology Platform to provide our bespoke and our externally managed solutions to our product teams.

•            Participating in out-of-hours support rota where agreed

•            Tech stack: Java, Python, Kotlin, Swift, Firebase, Terraform, Docker, AWS, Google

•            Cloud Platform, ELK, New Relic, Cloudwatch, Prometheus, Grafana and more

We’re looking for someone who has:

•            Familiarity or high interest with observability and monitoring

•            High interest in DevOps culture and automation mindset.

•            Computer Science (or related subject) engineering degree

•            Good spoken and written English

•            OOP and software design skills

•            Experience in Java

•            Passionate about developing high-quality enterprise software

•            Happy to take an active role in supporting the business needs

•            Passion and understanding of TDD and Clean Code

•            Experience working in a continuous delivery environment

 

Desirable

•            Terraform, Serverless, scripting, CI/CD

•            Knowledge of AWS/Cloud environments

•            Knowledge of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, …)
