Software Development Engineer en Barcelona

You will be responsible for developing Java based microservices, help junior developers on projects, and supporting various development duties. The responsibilities of engineers include writing code, analyzing data, and contributing to the design and implementation of software.

You will be joining a team who are pivotal in building API’s for Travelport Products. Your work will directly impact Travelport customers making their interactions with Travelport seamless and efficient.

Responsibilities: 

• Work within an agile scrum team to continually improve and build a high performing team.

• Contribute to the design, development and maintenance work delivering Java based APIs and microservices used by Travelport Products  
• Proactively work with the team to improve the CI/CD and automation capabilities  
• Participate in feature and story refinement and research and analyze impact for new capabilities.
• Contributes to establishment and enforcement of standards and best practices. Focused on efficient, high performance, high reliability/stability experience and architectural alignment of solution.
• Demonstrates ability to keep things simple and apply lean product development principles.

• Takes the initiative – doesn't wait to be told what to do. Constantly coming up with small improvements or big new ideas, bringing the best solutions to life.

• Help junior members of your team via code reviews, peer programming and other regular feedback.
• Quality is important to us; you will be writing & running tests against the code you introduce.
• We regularly carry out demo sessions for knowledge transfer and to gather feedback, you would participate in these sessions, presenting your work and giving feedback.

• Participate in supporting the availability and stability of applications in production.

What we look for/who would prosper in this role? 

• 2+ year’s experience in writing and deploying scalable and robust code
• Individuals with proven ability in server-side development using Java and Spring.
• Fair experience with Spring MVC, Struts 2, Java, jQuery, and SQL

• Experience in the development of scalable enterprise applications and REST microservices on private and public Cloud providers, using microservice architecture principles (12 factor etc.)
• Experience writing effective Unit & Integration Tests.
• Quality & high standards really matter to us - you will focus on continually applying high coding standards, excellent attention to detail and a methodological work process   
• Confident working with source control tools and branching strategies
• Previous experience in an Agile (Scrum) environment working with cross-functional development teams.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English  

• It would be advantageous if you have some experience with:

• Understanding of Git (e.g. Github), managing branches, pull requests and common workflows.
• Familiarity with standard CI / CD strategies & technologies (e.g. GitHub Actions, Sonarqube).
• Experience working with containers (docker and Kubernetes deployments)

• Experience with Relational Database technologies (e.g. Oracle, MYSQL, IBM DB2)
• Good Knowledge in OpenShift, Docker, and Cloud Platforms.
• Knowledge of Web Security
