As a member of the Harmonic Professional Services team, the Systems Engineer will:
- Work
with many of the largest service providers in the world deploying the
latest technologies in video delivery for live and time-shifted video
via traditional medium, or on the latest cloud infrastructure;
- Collaborate within Harmonic and with partner vendors in planning and executing complex video infrastructure projects;
- Create
software tools, scripts, and automation software for validation of
system operations and performance. Software programming experience in
OpenStack/SaltStack/Python/Docker
- Lead customer design reviews; detailed implementation and test planning;
- Configure
and test hardware and/or software products, including third party
equipment such as network routers, blade servers, and storage systems to
customer-specific parameters;
- Plan and conduct end-to-end system integration testing and operationalize the delivered system.
- Develop system test plans, Functional Verification Tests (FVT) including defining subsystem acceptance criteria;
- Conduct customer training of the delivered equipment;
- Broad
systems and software knowledge required with significant technical
depth in: cloud deployment, virtualization, networking, video
compression, stream processing, video related applications, and servers
& storage products.
- Troubleshooting and analysis of problems
related cloud, virtualization, video/audio compression, storage,
editing, transcoding, and encryption.
- Experience in performance interoperability and benchmarking assessment, planning, and execution.
- Experience
in working with 3rd party partners to analyze and research integration
opportunities between partners’ and Harmonic’s systems.
Required Experience:
- Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. New college graduates in EE or CS considered.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Strong background in Virtualization & Cloud solution in the context of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, DevOps
- Good understanding of systems engineering processes.
- Ability to provide technical leadership in system integration projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in cloud infrastructure, networking and video delivery technologies including but not limited:
- Conditional Access System
- Network management Systems
- Troubleshooting
and analysis of problems related cloud, virtualization, video/audio
compression, storage, editing, transcoding, and encryption.
- Cloud: OpenStack and distro variants (Mirantis, Red Hat, Canonical/Ubuntu, RackSpace, etc.)
- Cloud environments: Microsoft Azure, AWS, Docker/Containers, Kubernetes and hybrid clouds
- OpenStack deployment tools and administration. Certified OpenStack Administrator credentials is a plus
- Data
Center technologies: VMware vSphere and Hyper-V multi-tenant data
center infrastructure, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service,
Software-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service.
- Networking: SDN,
IP routing (RIP, OSPF, BGP), IP multicast (ASM, SSM, PIM, IGMPv1/2/3),
QoS (DiffServ, queuing), and switching. CCNA/CCNP a plus
- Tools: Python scripting, SaltStack, Ansible, DevStack, etc.
- Experience
in generating highly technical documents and reports including best
practices guides, whitepapers, and system architecture specifications.
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills for all levels of cloud systems functionality and operations.
- Operating systems: Linux distros (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu), Unix administration, Windows 2012/2008
- MPEG-2/MPEG-4/HEVC video compression and encoding standards, stream processing
- Digital video system architectures from signal acquisition to delivery for IPTV, Cable and OTT
- Troubleshooting
and analysis of problems related cloud, virtualization, video/audio
compression, storage, editing, transcoding, and encryption.
- Experience
in working with 3rd party partners to analyze and research integration
opportunities between partners’ and Harmonic’s systems.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
