We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and play a key role in leveling up the platform powering most of the Zendesk software! We take the reliability of our systems seriously and strive to make our services rock-solid and self-healing.

What you’ll be doing

  • Ship code to production, improve the experience of millions of Zendesk users!

  • Introduce patterns and architectural decisions impacting 90+ development teams.

  • Implement changes at the platform level increasing the efficiency of multiple teams.

  • Craft the path to run our platform on Rails master version

  • Promote the adoption of the latest Ruby advancements such as YJIT and Sorbet

  • Work across organizational boundaries to integrate services focusing on releasing quality code and observability.

  • Collaborate with development teams to investigate sophisticated performance and reliability issues spanning large distributed systems.

  • Provide and institute proven practices around reliability, remediations, and solving problems.

What you bring to the role
Required:

  • Proven experience with Ruby

  • Experience working with large codebases

  • Experience working with Kubernetes, Docker

  • A solid understanding of web application development and agile practices

Preferred:

  • Experience in upgrading Ruby on Rails on large applications

  • Datadog

  • Understanding of SLOs, SLIs, error budgets

Tech Stack:

  • Our support platform is built as a large Ruby on Rails application.

  • We deploy code with Spinnaker

  • We rely on multiple data stores such as MySQL, Memcached, Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch
