Engineering Lead who has lead teams and functions in an online business
before and you want to apply your expertise in the challenging setting
of a fast moving business like Babbel.
We are looking for a Head of Data Engineering (full-time) to start immediately in our office in Berlin-Mitte, Germany.
We love to see what you make of your role, for starters it will look like this:
- Build up a team of data engineers that can scale with Babbels growing business challenges
- Own and deliver the roadmap for Babbels data pipeline
- Partner
with internal stakeholders from Data Science, Finance, Product and
Marketing to drive for solutions that can keep up with Babbels growth
- Build expertise on ETL and data modelling and own data quality at Babbel
- Define and manage SLAs for all data sets at Babbel
- Work with the infrastructure team to triage infra issues and drive to resolution
- Conduct design and code reviews. Coach and lead team members on coding and problem-solving skills
For all of that you’ll need to have:
- 7+ years professional experience designing, building, monitoring and scaling data processing pipelines
- Experience scaling and managing small to medium teams
- Strong
team leadership skills, communicating openly, putting the right people
in the right seats, resolving conflicts, maintaining meaningful,
individual relationships with your team
- Strong data architecture, data modeling, schema design as well as effective project management and people management skills
- Deep, hands-on AWS experience, we use EMR, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis
- Strong engineering background, ideally experienced with medium to large sized cloud-based data systems
- Previous development experience with Python, Scala, Ruby, Go or Javascript is a huge plus.
- A passion for staying on top of emerging data-processing technologies
