About the job

We’re looking for a full-stack engineer to join our data engineering team.
IOMED’s products consist on an integrated suite of tools that dramatically
simplify the process of clinical research, by structuring clinical data and
providing a unified and standardized access to it. This role involves working on software components for our Python-based data processing pipeline, with the additional responsibility for integrating and enhancing our React-based frontend applications.

What you’ll do:

- Build and maintain features in the application frontend and the data
processing pipeline, following test-driven development practices and
agile planning processes
- Support and enhance data architecture and ELT pipelines.
- Improve test and monitoring coverage on key areas of the system
- Collaborate with colleagues to support and improve architecture,
systems, processes, standards, and tools.
- Participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed
for successful deployment, security, and high availability in the cloud and
edge deployments.
- Documentation of code, architecture and practices throughout the
development process.

We are using the latest tools for development and deployment (GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, Grafana) and agile software development methodologies. Our application currently uses technologies such as Python, React, PostgreSQL, Redis or RabbitMQ.

Our engineering team is made up of people from a broad range of
backgrounds, including computer science, bioinformatics and medicine. We are a small (but mighty) team and you’ll be in a key position as the company grows, so your contributions are vital to the company’ success. As a startup, we are looking for people who are eager to innovate and be part of a project with impact on healthcare industry, enjoying what we do, team-work and taking on new challenges. We are interested in diverse backgrounds and we value people who want to learn continuously.

About you

- You have proven skills developing software, and you’re comfortable
following software development best practices to create reusable and extendable code and are proficient with the tools-of-the trade (git, TDD,
etc).
- You have hands-on experience using Javascript/React, Python, and SQL
databases
- You write clean, maintainable code and love working on interesting
problems with a passion for building products which will be used every
day
- You work well in a team, can teach & learn from others, and
communicate what you’re working on, both with technical and non-
technical team members.

Ideally:

- Familiar with microservices development best practices.
- Hands-on experience deploying software with a container solution like
Docker.
- Hands-on experience with an orchestration tool like Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines

What we offer

- Full-time permanent contract.
- Competitive salary: 30.000€ - 35.000€ based on experience.
- Performance bonus.
- Flexible schedule, with possibility of home office once a week.
- A warm, transparent and supportive team, with huge emphasis on work-
life balance.
- Most days, lunch together in our sunny terrace.
- The opportunity to make your mark in e-health and AI.

About IOMED

IOMED is a technological company of software development. It was launched in 2016, funded by local and international ventures.

IOMED is an equal opportunity employer. We are still a small team and are
committed to growing in an inclusive manner. We want to augment our team
with talented, dynamic people irrespectively of race, color, religion, national
origin, gender, physical or mental disability, or age.

What we do.

Nowadays, around 50% of Clinical Trials are delayed due to patient recruitment,
since patient data collection is performed in a manual fashion. As a result,
clinical research is highly inefficient both in time and cost, taking years and
billions of dollars to develop a new drug.
This problem could be solved through Real World Data, i.e. derived from
Electronic health records (EHR). But unfortunately up to 85% of existing clinical data is unstructured, i.e. in plain text. This also leads, in part, to the existence of data silos, making it impossible to aggregate data from different hospitals.

IOMED has found the solution to this situation, making it possible to take
advantage of full value of clinical Real World Data. We developed a tool that
extracts the necessary data from clinical texts, which results in a structured,
standardized and interoperable database that contains the complete clinical
information from hospitals.

By this means, non-reusable information is transformed into data available for
Clinical Research, allowing an enormous increase in criteria-compliant patients and a reduction of total time and manual labor devoted to this task.

IOMED has developed a Natural Language Processing tool that allows hospitals to structure their information identifying clinically relevant variables from medical notes and structuring them into datasets, which can then be easily queried. Thanks to this data structuration, professionals and researchers from the hospitals can access to the information stored in their facilities more quickly thus accelerating patient recruitment by reducing the time invested in this process. At the same time, it allows hospitals to improve the quality of their services.
