About the role

We're expanding our DevOps team to accommodate the rapid expansion of our Engineering department. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in not only shaping our infrastructure but also defining the future of engineering enablement within the company. You’ll do the usual DevOps things, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems.

Collaborating closely with our engineering and support teams, you'll streamline development processes, optimize deployment pipelines, and fortify our continuous integration and delivery practices. Your role will encompass managing our cloud infrastructure, enhancing our observability capabilities, simplifying security protocols, and driving automation initiatives.

We're seeking a talented individual who excels in dynamic environments, relishes new challenges, and is deeply committed to helping engineers do their best work with amazing tooling.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure on AWS.

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software deployment, testing, and release processes.

  • Enable our software engineers to independently develop, release and maintain software via close collaboration with and education of the engineering team.

  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure the reliability and performance of our applications and services.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform and related tools.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and lead implementation of new tools and technologies to improve efficiency, scalability, and security.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues in production and non-production environments.

  • Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

About you

  • You have proven experience in designing and implementing cloud solutions, preferably in AWS/Azure/GCP (nice to have: at least 2 out of 3).

  • You know a lot about Linux and are capable of working with bash.

  • You’re really very good with Docker and general container concepts and its toolset ecosystem.

  • You are an expert when it comes to Infrastructure As Code, CI/CD, and other modern tooling to accelerate engineering processes. You’re proficient in tooling for these (such as Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) and have experience working with them in an enterprise setting.

  • You are proficient in Monitoring and observability tooling and techniques across a broad swath of concerns including security, performance, networking and provenance.

  • You are a fast learner and are able to navigate across multiple functions and complex systems.

  • You are able to work both independently and as part of a team. You strive to drive collaboration, and decision making and have deep opinions on platform design.

  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages, with the ability to mentor others on best practices.

  • You have experience in identifying and responding to complex incidents, including issues that may relate to customer infrastructure.

Nice to have:

  • Product development life cycle and tools that allow engineers to build cool stuff faster and more easily.

  • Cloud networking minutiae: designing and implementing network architectures in cloud environments, hybrid network environments, facility with Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Virtual Network (VNets), and load balancing

  • Cloud security, especially for AWS( IAM, secure configuration of services, AWS Cloudtrail, SCP’s, AWS Org, Config etc.)

  • Life in a rapidly growing startup, stories about the struggles you’ve seen during rapid growth, and solutions you’ve helped craft for them.

  • Working with open source communities, extra points if you’ve helped commercialise an OSS project.

  • Technical writing, and the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms.

  • Understanding the whole solution, not just the technology, evaluate tradeoffs, and communicate decisions to colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Seqera, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role and your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
