CARTO empowers everyone, from business analysts to data scientists,
to turn location data into business outcomes. Our SaaS platform offers
visual insights on where things happen, why they happen and predicts
what will happen in the future. We accelerate innovation, find
efficiencies, power new use cases, and disrupt business models through
the use of location intelligence (LI).
Data is now more
important than ever and the information distilled from it is crucial to
take meaningful decisions. As a Junior Data Engineer, you will become a
data wrangler. You will take
tons of data coming from very heterogeneous data sources (check out our
Data Partners), understand them and write code to refine and transform them to allow our customers to extract
valuable information from them.
We are currently working in extending the catalog of our
open-source Data Observatory and adding more data sources to
Reveal,
our Site Planning solution to offer better predictions. We are also
just starting a new project that will make data consumption easier than
ever and we will need to design the process to load the data and the
APIs to retrieve it.
This position is based out of our Madrid, Spain office, but you can also work remotely from Spain.
Requirements
We’re looking for a person who loves order
and can patiently distill valuable, structured data out of a myriad of
sources, from open data CSV files to finance APIs. CARTO customers
demand data that is both relevant and easy to use, and the team must
grow in order to live up to expectations.
This is a junior position where you’ll have plenty of room to learn, both about those generic tools and our own internal stack, so don’t worry, we don’t expect mastery from the very beginning.
The basic tooling that you’ll use is Python and SQL
(in CARTO we love PostgreSQL and PostGIS), so the more you know them,
the better. We’re mostly using traditional relational databases, but we
might also use NoSQL for some needs.
You will need to question your own decisions
and the ones that led to the current implementation. Once a new ETL
task is written, the job is not still done. The output must be analyzed
to find if the results are correct and make sense, better approaches can be considered, and the execution speed of both the ETL process and the queries must be satisfactory.
We still don't know how we are going to implement the next big thing, so you need to be eager to learn and come up with different alternatives to help shape the future.
We
have a passion for clean code. We achieve that through collaboration.
At CARTO we believe that professional development happens through
teaching and learning from your peers and managers. We'd love to get to
know you even if you’re uncertain about whether you have the experience
we’re looking for.
